Today is the last day of the New Horizons Designs Valentine’s Day Blog Tour. Several of us bloggers have sewn up our own Valentine inspired versions of the Marbella Tank or Valencia Top. My Valencia Top is how I do Valentines Day-very casual!
My husband and I never go out on Valentine’s Day. When we were in college and dating, I made him the fanciest dinner I knew on Valentine’s Day–Chicken Parmesean. Now it’s a tradition the kids get to participate in! Valentine’s Day is pretty much the one time a year I make Chicken Parmesean. I like the recipe and it feels so special and nostalgic to me that I’ve stopped even considering ordering chicken parmesan at a restaurant because it just can’t compete with my own! Anyways, I wanted a casual, comfortable Valentine’s shirt I would wear all year round that doesn’t scream hearts.
Of course, the Valencia Top has some great options for a draped crossover back if you need something a bit more formal. Or you can check out the Boardwalk Wrap Top I shared on Wednesday. It makes me feel like a million bucks-and my honey thinks so too! It’s my current top choice for a dressed up look.
I pulled out some pieces of super soft black rayon spandex that are only around because they have been too small for my usual patterns. But with the color blocking options in the Valencia, I could finally use them! I added some red pen scribbled jersey for the contrasting color blocking and a black pocket.
My pen scribbles fabric wasn’t wide enough to get the entire back in one piece. My solution was to add a bit of interest by cutting the back into two pieces on the bias. (Make sure to add seam allowance if you do this!) When they are sewn together it makes a fun chevron design in the color blocked section.
See? Fun, comfortable, and festive yet I’ll be wearing this all year long.
Now if you’re looking for some inspiration for your own Valentine look, be sure to check out all the other stops on the blog tour. Link are at the bottom of the post. And if you need some patterns and fabric to make your vision come to life, pay attention!
