Pattern Review: Janie Dress

Nut #2 loves to be comfortable, but girly at the same time.  And when school started and she needed new winter clothes, I felt like a Janie Dress with a cowl neckline was perfect.  Give it long sleeves and pair it with some Leggins and she skipped off to school happily!  Just pretend its actually the beginning of school and not after Christmas before I got around to posting this review!  But, she did just start at a new school, so maybe it still applies?Janie Dress

I made a skater style dress for Nut#2 at Easter time and she loved wearing it to church all summer.  I had to alter it to get the right look though.  So I decided to try out the Janie Dress too.

The Janie Dress grading looks even and the side seam for the biggest sizes are angled so the waist is smaller than the chest.  This coordinates with the size chart (in contrast to the Caroline Party Dress where the side seams are not angled).  There are notches on the sleeve cap and grainlines on the pattern pieces.

Fit

I did not make any adjustments to fit my daughter.  The waist hits at her natural waist and is loose, bordering on baggy.  The skirt reaches past her knees, which I how I like her dresses to fit, and the sleeves are the perfect length.  The shoulders a probably a bit narrow on her, but I really think she inherited my wide shoulders since I’ve been noticing most patterns are narrow for her shoulders.

My daughter loves the cowl neck.  She says it’s like wearing a scarf, which is pretty accurate.  She loves that ever since I made her this fleece tunic with ultra cuddle fabric for the cowl neck.  It’s a great skater dress I’m happy to send her to school in.

Opinion

I like this pattern!  It’s a nice girly dress with awesome twirl and my daughter is really happy with it!  I’d like to play with the proportions of the bodice and skirt and try a peplum too.
