Live Action Beauty and the Beast Inspired Dress
After making the knit Belle dress, I decided to push the pattern even farther and make a Live Action Beauty and the Beast Inspired Belle Dress out of satin and tulle. The dress turned out beautifully and Nut-Nut has worn it nearly every day since!
I love how the Live Action Beauty and the Beast dress is simple, yet elegant. My version tries to capture some essential style lines.
Layers of ribbon detailing on the bodice mimic the ruffles on Belle’s dress and the bodice itself has dolman cap sleeves. The bodice meets at a point in both the front and back centers and closes with an invisible zipper.
I chose to make the skirt of the dress a full circle skirt with three layers of tulle and a cascading ruffle in the back. The skirt is slim at the waist but full and twirly at the bottom, like the Live Action Belle dress. Even without a pettiskirt underneath the skirt puffs out beautifully and captures the magic of the movie.
Can you tell I’m pleased?
Actually, I am so pleased with how the Belle dress turned out I made one for a birthday gift! It seemed so appropriate, since the party was at the movie theatre to watch the Live Action Beauty and the Beast. I just HAD to tag along for the movie and it was so fun to be there with my girl. (Plus, she thought some scenes were scarey-but she also insists the Neverbeast in the Tinkerbelle movie is scary) Nut#2 dressed up in her knit Belle dress and had me put her hair up in a style like Belle’s. Nut-Nut was convinced she was going to the movie too-she got in her dress and begged to go too…But Daddy saved the day by creating fun at home. They made Beauty and the Beast puppets on popsicle sticks and videotaped a little movie with the puppets. I’m so lucky to have that man.
Back to the dress…I made two for my neighbor’s daughters and they turned out even better than Nut-Nut’s. Matte satin with less shine, better scoop around the armpits, nicer finish along the neckline, and longer skirt lengths. Can’t wait to get some pictures of them wearing the dresses! (Come on Spring…) One of the reasons these Live Action Beauty and the Beast Dresses are so beautiful is because I custom sized them for the girls. One daughter measured a straight 6, but the other needed more room at the waist. (I love those little kid bellies! Most of my kids can really stick theirs out…) S0 I blended sizes for her height, chest, and waist measurements and made a dress to fit her just right. Both dresses are as long as possible without dragging on the floor and have 2 inches of ease in the bodice. They should be able to wear these for several years!
And…I listed this Live Action Beauty and the Beast Dress in my Etsy Shop! I have sizes up to 8 years listed. But feel free to email or send me a message if you’d like me to make a dress larger than size 8. Nut #2 might need a woven Belle dress too…
