My Sewing Machine is Calling…

I know I already said way back in April that life was crazier than usual because we were getting our house ready to sell and all that.  I thought it would all kinda calm down by July and I could start sewing and posting projects again.  Well, here it is September and I still don’t feel like I have the luxury of sewing quite yet.  Actually, I was starting to feel like I could sew, did a pattern test, tried a new pattern, planned and set out several more, and then everything took an extremely unexpected turn and we ended up moving to a new apartment.  Second one this summer.  And then kids started school and it was about all I could do to send them to school with essential school supplies.  But I feel like I see the light at the end of the tunnel.  Just about everything in the house has a home.  I’m making regular meals.  I should be able to start washing clothes normally by Monday (haven’t had a dryer for most of the summer and have been channeling my inner pioneer to get laundry done).  The kids have shoes, backpacks, supplies, new socks and are getting to and from school everyday.   I hear my sewing machine calling me during nap time as I try to check off my to do list.   It’s...

Coordinating Christmas Dresses

Seeing as Christmas was almost an entire month ago, now seems a great time to post those pictures of my two girls in their Christmas Dresses!  🙂  Better late than never… Pigg#2’s was made with Bella Sunshine’s Adaline Dress and Tunic and Pigg#4’s was made with Terra’s Treasure’s Evening Primrose Dress.  So glad I made them!  Pigg#2 wears hers every Sunday.  Pigg#4 still wants to wear the dress whose decorative stitching is coming undone and sequins snag my nylons and skirts.  🙁  At least Pigg#2 loves hers!     Some of the links in the post above are “affiliate links.” This means if you click on the link and purchase the item, I will receive a small affiliate commission. This helps fund fabric for testing and reviewing patterns. Regardless, I only recommend what I believe is...

Pattern Test: Shoulder Snap T-Shirt and Seated Panel Pants Harem Style

After I finished testing the Overlap Bodysuit for Kylie Crettenden of Fresh Stitch Patterns, she invited me to test two more patterns she had in the works.  This is probably vain of me, but I was flattered to actually be ASKED to test a pattern instead of applying and hoping to be selected…so I said yes.   Plus, Kylie is really nice to test for.  Her patterns come to testing already fitting very well and only needing slight changes for fit.  And the clothing turns out looking quite professional.  That being said, I don’t LOVE the style of Harem Pants.  Not my thing-at least not for my girl (I think Kylie is working on a version for older kids who don’t wear diapers anymore.  I can see these being really comfy pajamas for Pigg#3).  However, these have grown on me and look like they are really comfortable.  Pigg#4 got sick over Thanksgiving while at my sister’s house and I put her in these so she’d be comfy. One of the great things about these pants in there are only 3 pattern pieces!  They come together so stinking fast!  And Kylie has a link in her instructions for putting the elastic for the waistband directly on the pants with a serger instead of creating a casing, which makes these even faster to whip out.  The cuffs are folded up in...

Haute Skinny Skirt Hack

Several weeks ago I posted about a pattern I tested called the Haute Skinny Skirt.  You can look at that post here.  I loved the look of the skirt, but was bothered by the slit in the leg.  I felt like it was too high for me. So I hacked the pattern and finished just in time to wear it while I accompanied Mr. Jiggs to some meetings he had to attend.  We took a weekend trip to the conference and I needed to look professional for several days.  I’m a stay-at-home-mom…business casual isn’t really a staple in my wardrobe.  (Actually, I took this skirt to work on in the hotel room and then ended up wearing it because I didn’t take quite enough outfits for all the events I needed to go to with him…) I put the slit in the back and created a vent sort of thing so I never show skin through the slit.  It was perfect!  It’s one of my favorite skirts now when I want to look professional and attractive.  It’s a comfortable, conservative, flattering, pencil skirt and it’s just what I wanted! Sorry about the wrinkles.  These pictures were taken on a walk after church.  I’d been sitting in it all...

Items in Etsy Store!

A while ago I mentioned that my aunt owns a craft decor store (Things You WOOD Love) in Nebraska.  I made a few more things for her store, sent them, and then decided I would list more of them in my Etsy shop as well.  Soooo… Ta Dah! These bird ornaments are the bulk of what is in my Etsy Shop right now.  Each bird is a mix of burlap, lace, and linen.  My shop has close up pictures, if you’d like to take a closer look… I also have a couple banners made from a mix of burlap and lace.  I’ve put up pictures of an example but have options in the Shop for you to make just about any combination of Natural Burlap, Green Lace, and Cream Lace you can think of.  You can also choose to have them hang from white bias tape or cotton twill...
