Halloween 2012

We had a hard time deciding what to be for Halloween this year.  I still wanted them all to match, and I wanted to make it work around the Tiger costume the first two piggs wore then they were 1 year old.  Because I wanted Pigg # 3 to wear it.   So I thought Jasmine, Aladdin, and Raja-the tiger.  It would be perfect!  And Adorable!  I got Pigg # 2 on board, but Pigg#1 just wouldn’t go for it.  And then my attempts to make Jasmin pants out of an old shirt didn’t work because there just wasn’t enough fabric to work with.  (But now she has another pair of pants/leggings to keep her legs warm!) So Pigg#1 and I talked again, and he said he wanted to be a Knight.  The picture he liked looked an awful lot like Prince Phillip…so he eventually agreed to be Prince Phillip and match Pigg#2 as long as he got a sword, a shield, and the tunic.  Deal. And Pigg#2, well she became Briar Rose because I had an old shirt with the sweet lacing already done.  And it was perfect for Aurora’s peasant dress.  And I happened to have the fabric for a skirt to match.  The only thing I had to buy for their costumes was the black elastic for Pigg#2’s skirt. So here is our Halloween story:  (I...

KCWC-Leggings

Pigg # 2 always wants to wear dresses and skirts.  So that means leggings!  I cut up an old shirt of mine and used some leggings from Target that fit her well as a guide on how to cut out the pieces. The shirt is one I made last year for our family pictures.  I still love the print and wish I had more! When I called her to come for the pictures, she she brought her teapot.  So we added it as a prop.  No rhyme or reason. There are her interpretation of ‘pretty legs’. The little dance class I run out of my living room must be sinking in a little! Love her little hip pop! And another pair of leggings I cut out of an old sweater from high school.  I thought she’d appreciate the pink more than I would.  I didn’t have enough room to cut a casing for the elastic, but it is super soft so I just sewed it to the top.  It’s actually ripped off an old pair of Mr. Jigg’s underwear!  That’s why it’s so soft.  I ran out of elastic and had to make do to get the project finished. That’s what I’ve made for KCWC so far!  May be all that happens too.  But Pigg #2 will have warm...

Adult Circle Skirt

As part of my “use fabric you have on Projects you’ve been meaning to do”, I decided to try out Dana’s circle skirt tutorial in my size.  I use it before to make this little Dorothy dress-up for a friend, but I had tons of this fabric and wanted to try an adult version.   I found the fabric at a yard sale probably two years ago and have been thinking about this since then.  It reminds me of those china bowls and plates…Blue Willow or something like that. The elastic was pulled out of my favorite pair of workout/lounge pants after I wore them so much the elastic practically tore it’s own way out of the waistband.  I had to tweak the process a little so you wouldn’t see the black satins from the sweatpants.    And then I made a matching skirt for Pigg#2!  I know I’m cheesy.  I’m beyond making matching clothes for my daughter and her dolly (Which I will happily do when she’s older)…I make matching clothes for me and my real live dolly!  🙂  I’m calling it her Easter skirt…because she already had a gorgeous dress from a cousin and didn’t need a cute dress for Easter.  We did take these pictures on Easter.  But no…we did not wear them to...

KCWC-Ruffle Polka Dots

Hey!  I’m posting! Mr. Jiggs and I have been focusing our time on graduating Medical School, buying a house (yea!) and moving plans. Sooo…I’ve put posting projects on the back burner. But I’ve been sewing!  So here’s a shirt I made for Pigg#2.  I’m trying to use up the fabric I already have doing projects I’ve been meaning to do.  I’ve only been to a fabric store twice in the last 4 months…and that was to buy velcro and bias tape.  I’m pretty proud of myself. Anyways…here’s the top.  She’s willing to let me take pictures of her in clothes I made again.  We’ll see how long it lasts.  Lots of Ruffles across the front.  I put in the white ruffles because I didn’t have enough of the polka dots, but I like it because the polka dots are pretty busy.  The white seems to help balance the shirt out.  And a plain back with some fluttery sleeves.  I like how it turned out.  Wish I had more excuses to make her clothes…because she already has tons through like size 4T and doesn’t NEED anymore.  But I love making little girl...

Boy Dress-ups: King’s Crown

Pigg#1 really likes the ‘knight in shining armor’ kind of play.  But the real reason I decided to make him a crown was so he could play ‘king and queen’ or ‘prince and princess’ with Pigg#2.   I started out by cutting out the crown with a length equal to the circumference of his head plus an inch.  That was 21 inches.  Then I cut the top triangles out.  This first pictures is of the princess one where I cut the middle point bigger than the other ones.  Then I cut a rectangle that would cover all of the crown and sewed the crown to it.  I put diamonds in the points to be jewels.  Cut along the edge of the crown to have a double thickness crown.  Don’t sew the ends of the crown so you can slip elastic in between the two layers and sew it in.  So when you put it on your head, the elastic lets the crown stretch, but snug on your child’s head.  See how the elastic stretches?  King and Queen ready to hold...
