Sweater to Pillow Cover

Back in high school I had a bunch of sweaters I liked to wear.  But now it takes too much effort to hand wash and layering under them bothers me.  My life as a mother makes them uncomfortable.  So I’m slowly turning them into other things.  First up, a pillow cover.  I love the feel of this sweater and how the fabric looks.  I just want to grab it an run my hand over it because it looks delicious.  I chopped off the arms, sewed the bottom shut and sewed the shoulder seam a bit more. Then I stuff my pillow form in through the small v-neck (good thing it is sooo stretchy) and tucked the little collar in the neck to cover the rest of the pillow. ...

New Sunday Pants

Mr. Jiggs wears lots of khaki pants and dress pants since he dresses business casual almost every day.  And his pants start feeling the wear quickly.  His most recent pair of nice black pants wore through the top of the waist band and all the belt loops were becoming threadbare.    But the rest of the fabric was still in good condition.  So I ripped out the zipper to use in some future project and cut the pants down to make new church pants for Pigg#1.  He wore them for the first time and looked so spiffy.  The pants are a bit long with room to grow and an elastic waistband so he can go potty easily.  But I added some belt loops so he can wear a belt and tuck in his shirt for that nice crisp look I love. I know black shoes with a brown belt isn’t exactly right, but we only have a brown belt.  I also made the blue shirt almost a year ago from a dress shirt that got an ink stain on the back.  I guess the arms are getting a bit short now.  Maybe I’ll make another one...

What to do with an old dress shirt?

Somehow, Mr. Jiggs grew since I married him.  About two years ago, he suddenly said all his long sleeve shirts are too short in the sleeves.  What?  After a while I quit trying to figure it out and bought him a few new ones with longer sleeves.  Then I cut a few of the sleeves off the old ones and made the shirts into short sleeve shirts.  (and I have a huge stack of other shirts I have permission to use for whatever I want.) But waste not want not, right?  I didn’t throw away the parts of the sleeves I cut off.  I made them into a lingerie bag.  You know, the ones you can buy out of lace with a zipper in it to put things you don’t want to get ruined in the wash?    I simply cut the cuffs off the sleeves and sewed them into a tube.  The opening is the buttons on the arm sleeves and that’s how i stuff things in it.  It works and I’m happy i didn’t have to buy one of those...

Repurposed Shirt

Pigg#1 is always running out of shirts to wear.  I’m not sure how that happens every week, but it does.  So I took one of Mr. Jiggs’ shirts that he didn’t really need and made Pigg#1 a shirt.  At first I did an envelope (onesie) neck like the 90-minute shirts on Made, but I cut the ribbing too short and it bunched the neckline up.  So then I switched back to a regular neckline and Pigg#1 is much happier.  I had to sacrifice one of my own shirts for the black part for the sleeves since Mr. Jigg’s shirt was short sleeve and I really needed long sleeves for the...
