Striped Tunic

Another Tunic type of dress I made this week.  This was an old shirt of mine that I cut down to Pigg#2’s size.  It matches those leggings of hers perfectly (found them on clearance a year ago for a buck or two.  Score!) And I pretty much love it, even though I had to force her to put it on.  She picked out her bow.  She really likes this one.  Can’t see it but it has a vintagey pearl in the middle.  At least she acts like she likes it now that it’s...

Kid’s Clothing Week

It just so happens that I saw this tutorial last week and decided it was perfect for some fabric I had lying around.  I originally bought it when I was making baby stuff for Pigg#3, but then I decided it was too girly for my baby boy and didn’t use it.  So now it’s a dress/tunic for Pigg#2.  And I got it done just in time for kcwc.   The little stinker wouldn’t try on the dress one last time for me willingly.  So I put it on over her clothes for the day and took the pictures anyway.  I made the sleeves in a raglan style because the shirt I used for a patter had that style sleeve.  It’s fine.  But cuter in the original shirt. Hope she’ll wear it willingly one of these...

Baby Shower Gift: Blanket with an X

This is my all time favorite blanket that I’ve made ever.  Beside the Baby-life Quilt.  But seriously, it took huge will-power to wrap this blanket up and give it away instead of hoarding it for some distant future date when I have another baby girl. I love the the birdy print and the sweet yellow polka dots on the other fabric.  The pinks are just my kind of pinks.  Soft but not pale. I realized that curved edges work better for the Ric Rac edges so the edge came out perfectly.  And I realized that by sewing from corner to corner in a big ‘X’, the two pieces of flannel will stay together and won’t shift or slide. You can see part of the ‘X’ stitch better in this picture.  Simple but still effective. So now I feel like making Pigg#3 his own flannel blanket, even if it won’t have a crocheted...

Baby Shower Gift: Ric Rac Blanket

I love the crocheted edges that many people put on these flannel baby blankets.  Both Pigg#1 and Pigg#2 have ones with beautiful edges that they really like.  But I didn’t make them–family did.  And unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to make one because I can’t ever seem to finish a crochet project.  Plus, they look like complicated stitches. But I love how those edges make the blanket look complete.  And walking through a store one day I saw jumbo Ric Rac and decided to use that on the edge of the blanket to give it a bit more finish.   I thought I was being very creative and coming up with a completely new idea.   And then after I have it away at a shower I saw a tutorial for using Ric Rac to edge a blanket in the archives of a different blog.  Can’t remember which one now. But I really did think it up on my own, even if someone else thought it up before I did.  I still like the idea and will probably use it on a lot more blankets in the...

Baby Shower Gift: Blanket with Outfit

I made another blanket.  It goes perfectly with the Warhol Dress I made.   I experimented with a decorative stitch on my machine to give the edge a little something extra.  I love the crocheted edges people put on these type of blankets, but I don’t crochet well and never seem to finish those projects.  So I have to find other ways to make the edges look cute.  The outfit goes well with the blanket, doesn’t it?  And it’s nice and bright even if it does still have quite a bit of pink in...
