KCWC-Leggings

Pigg # 2 always wants to wear dresses and skirts.  So that means leggings!  I cut up an old shirt of mine and used some leggings from Target that fit her well as a guide on how to cut out the pieces. The shirt is one I made last year for our family pictures.  I still love the print and wish I had more! When I called her to come for the pictures, she she brought her teapot.  So we added it as a prop.  No rhyme or reason. There are her interpretation of ‘pretty legs’. The little dance class I run out of my living room must be sinking in a little! Love her little hip pop! And another pair of leggings I cut out of an old sweater from high school.  I thought she’d appreciate the pink more than I would.  I didn’t have enough room to cut a casing for the elastic, but it is super soft so I just sewed it to the top.  It’s actually ripped off an old pair of Mr. Jigg’s underwear!  That’s why it’s so soft.  I ran out of elastic and had to make do to get the project finished. That’s what I’ve made for KCWC so far!  May be all that happens too.  But Pigg #2 will have warm...

KCWC-Ruffle Polka Dots

Hey!  I’m posting! Mr. Jiggs and I have been focusing our time on graduating Medical School, buying a house (yea!) and moving plans. Sooo…I’ve put posting projects on the back burner. But I’ve been sewing!  So here’s a shirt I made for Pigg#2.  I’m trying to use up the fabric I already have doing projects I’ve been meaning to do.  I’ve only been to a fabric store twice in the last 4 months…and that was to buy velcro and bias tape.  I’m pretty proud of myself. Anyways…here’s the top.  She’s willing to let me take pictures of her in clothes I made again.  We’ll see how long it lasts.  Lots of Ruffles across the front.  I put in the white ruffles because I didn’t have enough of the polka dots, but I like it because the polka dots are pretty busy.  The white seems to help balance the shirt out.  And a plain back with some fluttery sleeves.  I like how it turned out.  Wish I had more excuses to make her clothes…because she already has tons through like size 4T and doesn’t NEED anymore.  But I love making little girl...

Teal Leggings

Hah, that’s what I get for not posting these with the shirt…I forgot to post them at all! So I made leggings to go with Pigg#2’s shirt for our family pictures.  I cut up one of my t-shirts that had shrunk short and bothered me.  The color was right.  I used other leggings as a pattern to know how to cut out the leggings.  And I used the hem of the shirt for the hem on the bottom of the leggings.  So these were really quick to put together.  I used an overlock stitch on my machine to do the elastic casing on the waistband.  I didn’t take a picture of the inside, but I used the overlock to contain the raw edge of the knit so it didn’t bother Pigg#2 and I didn’t have to fold under the edge.  Wow, I feel like I’m really bad at explaining myself.  Know how in casings you usually fold 1/4 inch and then fold over another 1inch or so so the raw edges of the fabric end up inside the casing and not fraying all over or bothering tender skin?  Well I was lazy and didn’t want to do that so I used an overlock stitch.   Okay.  Done.  I hope that makes more sense. And here is what the outfit looks like together.  I really lucked out and found the perfect...

Harvest Fairy–Pigg#2

So I decided Pigg#2 was going to be a fairy this year because I wanted to make a tutu for her.  I let them watch Tinkerbell just so she’d know what she was.  But even then, half the time she calls herself a Butterfly.  Ehh.  No biggie.  She’s still cute.  And I already had this brown crushed knit stuff I bought as a remnant a long time ago, so she got to be a harvest fairy.  I pretty much followed the tutorials on Make it and Love it.  I only deviated a bit.   I wanted her leotard to have sleeves.  Luckily a friend had just given me a leotard so I used that to trace out the shape for this instead of a swimming suit.  I didn’t actually set in sleeves, it’s just cut in the shape of sleeves with seams on the top and bottom.  Does that make sense?  Probably not.  I didn’t feel like making wings myself so I picked some up at the dollar store.  I was so lucky they had orange because I had already made the tutu when I went to buy the wings.  She was sold on the costume once she saw the wings.  So was Pigg#1.  He slyly tried to tell me he had changed his mind and maybe he could be a boy fairy after all.  Sorry.  No last minute costume...

Pigg#2’s Family Picture Shirt

I finished a project!  and not a minute too soon.  We’re taking some pictures of our little Jigg family tomorrow and I found this fabric at Hobby Lobby that was perfect for making something for Pigg#2.  She was the only one who I couldn’t seem to find something for in the existing wardrobe that would coordinate for the pictures.  But I couldn’t decide what to do with the fabric.  And then I saw this picture of a Carter’s shirt and knew I wanted to do a knock off of it. And this is what I came up with:  I added the band at the bottom of the dress.  It slightly gathers in the bottom of the shirt.  Not a lot since I still want it to be comfy to wear and play in.  A bow at the neckline instead of a flower  And the backside.  It isn’t gathered at the neck like the front is.  But it has a sweet covered button at the neck.  And another partway down the opening. And I made leggings to go with it.  But let’s face it…I don’t get a whole lot of projects made, photographed, and posted.  So I’m going to wait posting about the leggings. Hope the pictures go well...
