Clothing and Quilting Labels!

Eeek!  I’ve been wanting to make labels to put on my creations for a couple years and I’ve finally printed some and started using them. Although, I’m not use to having them and keep forgetting to put them in!  🙂 I used a couple tutorials for making labels through Spoonflower.  The idea is you create your own print (used Photoshop), upload it to Spoonflower.com, select what type of fabric you want it printed on and the size, then order! I’m really pleased with the colors and resolution!  The sizes are just about right, maybe a little tweaking.  I ordered a fat quarter to make sure the labels were just what I wanted before printing a whole yard and getting 300+ labels! I’ve tried out all of the types I made at least once.  We’ll see which ones I end up using most!  I used one of the labels I intended for Quilts on the outside of a waistband.  Perhaps it will be useful in clothing as well! Halloween costumes are finished, finally!  I’ll hopefully share those by Monday…nothing like...

Christmas Tree Advent Calendar

Last year I wanted to make an advent calendar like the one my mom had up every year when I was growing up.  But I didn’t finish it until February.  Since this is the first year I’ve used it, I decided to do a post about it.  I wonder when I’ll make a project that has nothing that “I’d do differently” about. But over all I am pleased with the calendar and am glad I made it.  Pigg#1 is so excited to put up one ornament each day and we hung it up high so Pigg#2 can’t mess with it too much.  Maybe this will help Pigg#1 start figuring out what numbers look like…most of the time he calls them letters. Perhaps someday I’ll make new, cuter, more polished ornaments.  But until then…Happy First Day of...

Dorothy Costume

Pigg#1 has a friend turning three in a couple of weeks.  She’s very into dress-ups and I happened to have this fabric around my house, so decided to make a Dorothy costume for her birthday.  I used this tutorial for the skirt. The dress is made of a circle skirt like in the tutorial, but I didn’t want to attach the skirt directly to the elastic waistband.  I wanted a casing so I could keep the Checked fabric look.  So I gathered the skirt slightly and attached a casing.   But I wanted it to be flat (not gathered)...

Quiet Book Page 2

I loved making the farm finger puppets so much that I went ahead and made monkeys for the “5 little monkeys teasing Mr. Alligator”.  Mr. Alligator is a pocket that can ‘eat’ the monkeys and each monkey has a leaf in the tree to sit in to tease from.  I made this page up myself basing the finger puppets off the farm ones from Homemade by Jill.  The leafs in the tree look cute, but don’t keep the monkeys in very well so they have to be stored in the Alligator when not being played with. Other than that I love them.  I had to make both boy and girl monkeys to please everybody.  besides, the little bow on the girl monkeys are so...

Quiet Book Page 1

Six months ago when I was planning a trip from the east coast to the west coast with two children under 3 all by myself, I decided to make a quiet book to entertain on the airplane.  I looked for ideas all over the internet and got plenty of great ideas.  I finished six pages and have MANY more that I intend to make.  Here is the first page I finished.  I found my idea here on Homemade by Jill.  I thought it was adorable and made a few tweaks as I got inspired. A nice Farmhouse With a button holding the doors together.   And some cute little finger puppet animals inside.  I have three more, but the Piggs have scattered them or they’ve migrated to my purse to be used as entertainment in the grocery store and other places I’m desperate for sanity.    And in the top little window I stuck a rooster, thinking the babies would like the surprise.   I’ve learned from this page and I’d do many things differently a second time.  (Like do a real blanket stitch on the edges now that I’ve actually learned instead of that attempt to create the effect)  I love making the finger puppets and wanted to make a ton, but the barn fits three comfortably and is already very crowded when all five are tucked in...
