Handmade Ballet Leotard with Short Sleeves

Nut #2 is a pretty stereotypical girl.  She likes dresses, princesses, fairies, baking…and dancing.  So we signed her up for dance classes.  And, as children do, she outgrew her ballet leotard and needed a new one.  I looked around pricing out options and decided to just make a bleed leotard for her.  The cost of the pattern and fabric is almost the same or less than buying a new ballet leotard.  Except now I can make the ballet leotard to fit her just right and use the pattern for years to come! Now that she’s 8, she’s old enough...

Pattern Test and Review: Tulipa Dolman

It’s been a while since I last tested a pattern.  Moving states, summer, reunions, and taking care of kids have taken my time leaving little left for pattern tests.  But my move is done (mostly-all the essentials at least) and school is back in session!  (Remember the Dill Pickle Tees and Alpine Pants I made for back to school?) So when I saw the Tulipa Dolman I knew I was ready to test again and this was the perfect pattern to start with. This was my first pattern and pattern test from Sew Like My Mom and it really...

Pattern Review: Lillian Pintucked Dress and Tunic

I bought the Lillian Pintucked Dress and Tunic on Black Friday almost two years ago.  I’d heard great things about Mousehouse Creations patterns and was looking for some well drafted sleeves for kids in woven fabrics.  I bought fabric to sew the pattern up and even had the pattern printed out-for over a year.  I’m happy to have finally sewn up a tunic version! This Lillian Pintucked Tunic is a size 6 width with size 8 length in unlined quilting cotton.  I’ve never done pin tucks before, and the pattern looked a bit crazy on the front where the...

Tiered Party Dress and Diaper Cover

My SIL had a baby in March and I just had to make a itty bitty dress for my new niece!  I wanted something fun and bright and decided to use this lightweight rainbow stripe fabric to make a tiered party dress. I used this fabric to make a top to match some pants I tested (you can see it here) but I wasn’t wise when I cut the top out and ended up with long, 6-7 inch wide pieces left over.  Even though this is size 6 mo., that wasn’t enough width to cut the skirt in one piece,...

Mommy and Me Rashgaurd and Swim Bottom

While I was browsing through the pattern books at Joann this winter (probably the first time since I was a teenager) I came across a pattern for a rashguard and swim bottom.  And I impulsively bought it-in both my daughter and my size.  So I could at least imagine the weather was hot enough to need a swim suit. And then I actually made them.  Swimsuits (this is a first for me).  From a tissue paper pattern.  (I really dislike messing with the flimsy tissue paper)  And then, I made a swim bra to go under my rashgaurd so...
