Pattern Review: Love Notions Leggins

For years Nut#2 hasn’t had leggings because I only allow them under dresses and tunics.  We were riding bikes to school and dresses would get caught in the wheels-therefore no dresses and no leggings.  But we’ve moved and our climate is a bit more mild.  So I made Nut#2 a pair of Love Notions Leggins to wear under a dress I will share soon. When Nut#2 was really little I made leggings by tracing around pairs she already had.  That worked fine.  But we don’t have leggings in her current size, so I decided to make up the Love...

Handmade Pokemon Costumes

Halloween Costumes are not my favorite things to make.  But I made my kids some Pokemon Costumes and they are happy and excited to be able to wear them after Halloween too!  I tried to take some pictures yesterday before trick or treating and it was a bit crazy. So not super great pictures… Here we have Fennekin, complete with a giant tail. And here is Teddiursa, with a cute little tail and floppy ears. I used the Summit Peak Hoodie from New Horizons Designs to make the shirts for both Pokemon costumes.  I color blocked the hood to...

Rise of the Guardian Tooth Fairy Costume

*update*-Click here for my tutorial on making a pixie hood from a standard hood and here for how to make those fabric feathers! Nut-Nut frequently surprises me.  She is girly, yet not.  Likes pink, yet insists on the orange plate.  Dresses up but won’t let you watch her dance.  So of course she picked a random character to dress up as for Halloween.  And bugged me until I finally made it.  So, Nut-Nut is getting a tooth fairy costume.  As in the tooth fairy from the Rise of the Guardians movie.  And I’m sharing it as my second contribution...

Black Cat Socks

October is the month for Halloween, but I have to admit…I’m not much for scary or creepy stuff.  And I hardly ever dress up for Halloween.  I am however, very into cutesy Halloween things.  So I made myself some Black Cat Socks as part of my contribution to the Monster Mash Blog Tour!  They are cutesy and can double as a ‘costume’ when my kids ask what I’m dressing up as! I used the Cozy Critter Sock pattern from Peekaboo patterns.  It’s meant for kids and I have made several different animal socks for my kids in the past.  I’m...

LDS Baptism Dress for my 8 Year Old

My oldest daughter, Nut#2, turned 8 years old this summer.  Right in the middle of our move, actually.  And she decided to be baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  It’s a bit of a big deal to us.  Maybe along the lines of First Communion in Catholicism.  To celebrate the occasion, my daughter and I collaborated on a special baptism dress for her to wear on that day. I have fond memories looking through pattern books and selecting fabric with my mother for my own baptism dress.  I wanted the same thing for...
