Pattern Review: Love Notions Moto Max/Maxxine Pants

Originally posted Wednesday, December 14, 2016 I’ve put off doing this review for a long time because I really wanted to like this pattern, and figure out how to fit these pants.  But I guess I just need to document where I am since I’m forgetting details. I bought the Maxxine Pants pattern in the 2015 Black Friday Sale and then didn’t sew them up until Fall 2016.  I was hoping to be able to make pants for my very ‘particular’ Nut#2, who has never been a kid to pick anything out of the drawer and wear it, but...

Pokemon Halloween Costumes

Two years ago my family had epic Halloween costumes.  Everyone had a costume, they were all themed (pokemon), and some of us even sprayed our hair different colors. It was awesome. And I didn’t take a single picture.  Even though we won a prize for best costumes at a party.  Lame. Nut#1 still loves Pokemon and is wearing his Ash costume for the third year in a row.  (Sweet! His costume was already done.)  Pigg#3 has followed his brother’s lead and wore the same Pikachu costume two years in a row.  But this year he decided to branch out...

Baby Boy Onesie

Here’s an outfit I made a few months ago for a friend’s new baby boy.  I like the idea of having the embellishment wrap around to the back and decided a race car would be just right for a boy. Cute, quick, and...

Lion Costume

This year I caved and attempted to coordinate the costumes in our family.  But I had a kink.  When Pigg#1 was a baby I bought a pre-made plush tiger costume that is very cute but was more expensive than it was worth.  I bought it big so he’d fit in it two years and I still don’t feel like I’ve got my money out of it yet so Pigg#2 gets to wear it this year too. How to coordinate simply and cheaply with a tiger costume?  I came up with “Lion, Tigers, and Bears, Oh My!”  Pigg#1 will be a lion, Mr. Jiggs will be a bear, and I will be the Oh My.  The lion costume is done but Pigg#1 will not try things on for me or let me take pictures.  I did my best.  I made pajamas out of tan flannel (so it continues to be used) and then used the hood from the pattern to make the lion head piece.  Mr. Jigg’s bear headpiece comes from the same pattern.  But it’s not as cool looking.  ...

Basketball Shirt

A while ago Pigg#1 said he wanted me to make him a basketball shirt.  So I searched the clearance racks for a couple weeks and came up with a plain black shirt with a small chest pocket from Target for 2 dollars.  Then using scraps of orange knit from one of Mr. Jigg’s t-shirts, I made this. A plain black t-shirt with a large off centered basketball because the pocket on the chest wouldn’t let me center the basketball.  I thought it was pretty cool.  Especially with the black stitching to make the lines of the basketball.  So Boy. Pigg#1 looked at it with half a smile, then said it needed more basketballs.  “How many do you think it should have?”  “Two or three.”  So I came up with this…   A total of three basketballs.  One large, one medium with swoosh lines coming out the back, and one small slightly tucked inside the pocket.  When I showed him this version, Pigg#1 grinned and asked if he could change shirts.  And Pigg#2 likes to point out the balls on his shirt all...
