Baby Life Quilt Progress

Okay, I’ve been quilting the quilt and taking my time.  I decided to outline each letter with the quilting and do straight lines on the rest of the quilt. Quilting around each letter took me at least 5 or 7 minutes per letter.  In case anyone is interested, I taped the backing to my floor, put the batting on top, placed the top piece on top and then safety pinned all that together.  What I wish I had done as well is use spray adhesive to ‘glue’ all the layers together.  But I’d already safety pinned the whole blanket and started quilting around the letters before I came across that idea.  Next time. Now onto the binding and we’ll be...

Pigg#1’s Easter Tie

I made a quick tie for Pigg#1 using this pattern and tutorial.  Except I printed the pattern out with each of the pages different sizes (lame mistake) and forgot about it until I was sewing it together.  So I had to fudge to make it fit together and it ended up short.  But you probably can’t tell, can you?  I had Mr. Jiggs tie me a nice looking knot and then pull the short end so the neck loop disappeared.   Then I sewed an elastic neck loop on the tie.  And I put a slid on it to tighten, in case the elastic was too loose.  I didn’t end up needing it, but that’s what happens when you sew during nap times or your little pigg won’t try things on for fittings.  I’m pleased with the tie and I love how it brings out the blue in his eyes.  Thank you Mr. Jiggs for passing on those adorable baby...

Knit Baby Blanket

Up until my babies are about 6 months old, I like to swaddle them very tightly.  And they come out over 8 lbs. to start with.  So I like my blankets to be big.  And Stretchy.  So I can really strap them in.  Here’s a new blanket for Pigg#3.  Just knit from Joann’s, turned under twice and sewn with a slight zig-zag stitch.  Not too fancy, but essential for my family’s...

Western Vest and Gun Holster

I saw this tutorial and decided to run with that idea for a present for Pigg#1’s best friend.  Pigg#1 is jealous of course.  He especially likes the fringe on the bottom.  Pigg#2 also likes to try it on.  I guess it’s a good dressup. I also saw squirt guns and Wal-mart and thought they would go well with a western vest.  And that turned into making gun holsters to hold his squirt guns, for those really intense water wars that are sure to come up this year. And belt to hold the guns at his waist.  This was the really exciting thing for Pigg#1.  He even tried to sneak into the bathroom and fill them up with watch after I told him where the water goes in.  That’s sneaky for the sweet little pigg. Even I’m excited for...

Mittens

Our weather is very unpredictable these days, so I’m still thinking cold weather things.  Like mittens.  I don’t like my fingers to be cold.  I want them toasty warm and I want both my hands and the little Piggs hands to be warm as we take walks in the freezing cold.  So I made Pigg#1 mittens to match his fleece hat using the same pattern.   But the thing I hate about gloves and mittens is that I can’t use my fingers.   Solution: the flap that folds back and exposed your fingers so you can button buttons, zip zippers, and cross your fingers. I’m still working on a pair for...
