Carseat Strap Covers

Hey look!  A project that isn’t a baby blanket!  So I’ve had this project done for quite a while, but never took pictures.  I wanted soft carseat strap covers to keep the straps from rubbing against soft baby skin.  I used this tutorial and I am so happy with the outcome.  Please ignore the random thread hanging off the strap.  They velcro over the straps and can be washed when they get spit up on.  I need to make one for Pigg#1 too.  He’s in a backless booster seat now (since we have a Camry and that’s the only way to fit three carseats in the the back of it) and I think the seat belt might be uncomfortable for him at the neck.  Come to think of it, I’d like one too because I don’t like the feet of the seat belt on my neck either.  Don’t they look so comfy?  And it’s nice that they match the carseat and his Robot blanket cover too. Love my sweet little boy!  Especially now that he is settling into a routine and I can count on him to be eating and sleeping at the same times each...

Baby Shower Gift: Blanket with an X

This is my all time favorite blanket that I’ve made ever.  Beside the Baby-life Quilt.  But seriously, it took huge will-power to wrap this blanket up and give it away instead of hoarding it for some distant future date when I have another baby girl. I love the the birdy print and the sweet yellow polka dots on the other fabric.  The pinks are just my kind of pinks.  Soft but not pale. I realized that curved edges work better for the Ric Rac edges so the edge came out perfectly.  And I realized that by sewing from corner to corner in a big ‘X’, the two pieces of flannel will stay together and won’t shift or slide. You can see part of the ‘X’ stitch better in this picture.  Simple but still effective. So now I feel like making Pigg#3 his own flannel blanket, even if it won’t have a crocheted...

Baby Shower Gift: Self Binding Blanket 2

Okay, I’ve already made this kind of blanket several times.  And shown them too.  But it’s hard to go to as many baby showers as I’ve been to in the last 4 months and not repeat ideas!  But I’m sharing this blanket because I love the print.  I bought it at Joann’s shortly after Pigg#2 was born because I loved both the print and the color scheme.  Girly but not overly pink or flowery.  I wish I have bought more because I still love it and could have used more making matching burp cloths and such.  But I couldn’t find it at my Joann’s anymore once I actually had a use for it and I still haven’t tried buying fabric online.  I really like walking down aisles of fabric and feeling them as I go along.   When I take Pigg#2 she likes to reach her hands out too and say,”Feel ’em?”  Maybe I’m starting her a bit young, but I hope she’ll grow to appreciate sewing even if she doesn’t love...

Baby Shower Gift: Ric Rac Blanket

I love the crocheted edges that many people put on these flannel baby blankets.  Both Pigg#1 and Pigg#2 have ones with beautiful edges that they really like.  But I didn’t make them–family did.  And unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to make one because I can’t ever seem to finish a crochet project.  Plus, they look like complicated stitches. But I love how those edges make the blanket look complete.  And walking through a store one day I saw jumbo Ric Rac and decided to use that on the edge of the blanket to give it a bit more finish.   I thought I was being very creative and coming up with a completely new idea.   And then after I have it away at a shower I saw a tutorial for using Ric Rac to edge a blanket in the archives of a different blog.  Can’t remember which one now. But I really did think it up on my own, even if someone else thought it up before I did.  I still like the idea and will probably use it on a lot more blankets in the...

Monogram Onesie

Along with the Orange Checked baby Romper I gave as a Baby gift, I whipped up a monogrammed onesie.  This friend decided on a name for her little boy months in advance, like as soon as they knew their baby was a boy, so I could actually make one of these cute onesies.  Most of my friends haven’t decided on a name until the baby arrives. I like it and will probably make one for Pigg#3 too.  When he runs out of clothes to wear.  He’s either longer than Pigg#1 was as a baby or I have a different sense of what fits because Pigg#3 seems to be growing out of clothes quicker than Pigg#1...
